چکیده

OBJECTIVES Hypertension is one of the most frequent complication during laryngoscopy and intubation; thus in the premedication or induction stages, many drugs have been used to control this hypertension. Nitroglycerine is one of the drugs thought to be effective and the purpose of this study is to appraise this deliberation. METHODS 150 patients of 20-50 years of age were enrolled in this randomized double blind clinical trial. They were randomly divided into two group, one received 2 microg/kg nitroglycerine while the other group did not received any drug. Blood pressure was checked in 3 different stages and compared. RESULTS In both groups, pre and post intubation systolic pressure had a significant difference; whereas this relation could not be found for the diastolic pressure. These variables did not have a statistically significant relation prior to intubation; whilst after intubation, a significant relation was elicited. CONCLUSION Injection of 2 microg/kg nitroglycerine immediately after anesthetic induction is effective in preventing the unwanted increase in the blood pressure, and as a result, complications following this response in patients with ischemic heart disease would be reduced.

The effect of oral clonidine pretreatment on intraocular pressure and hemodynamic stability after succinylcholine injection and intubation in cataract surgery

Abstract Background: Providing better surgical conditions with meticulous control of Intraocular Pressure (IOP) is one of the most important factors that affect the success rate in ophthalmic surgery. Clonidine is a selective central α2 agonist with analgesic, antianxiety and sedative effects which makes it a good choice in premedication recently. In this study, we compared the effects of oral...

Attenuation of the Pressor Response to Tracheal Intubation in Severe Preeclampsia: Relative Efficacies of Nitroglycerine Infusion, Sublingual Nifedipine, and Intravenous Hydralazine

BACKGROUND The pressor response to laryngoscopy is known to be exaggerated in patients with severe preeclampsia. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacies of continuous intravenous (IV) infusion of nitroglycerine, IV hydralazine, or sublingual nifedipine in modifying cardiovascular responses to endotracheal intubation, in women with severe preeclampsia undergoing c...

Comparison of Effects of Labetalol and Nitroglycerine on Intraoperative Blood Loss and Surgical Field Quality in Rhinoplasty Surgery

BACKGROUND Rhinoplasty is one of the most common surgeries of the plastic surgery and as well as ear, throat and nose. Intra-operative bleeding during surgery is one of the most important factors that may impair the surgeon’s job. Providing a clean blood-free surgical filed makes the operation faster, easier and with a better quality. One way to achieve this goal is to induce hypotension. This...

The Effects of Lipid Emulsion on the Improvement of Glasgow Coma Scale and Reduction of Blood Glucose Level in the Setting of Acute Non-Local Drug Poisoning: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Our aim was to evaluate the effect of intravenous intralipid administration as an antidote on the poisoned patients' Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), hemodynamic parameters, arterial blood gas analysis, and routine metabolic profile tests (i.e. urea, glucose, sodium, and potassium) in the setting of non-local anesthetic drug overdose. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, a tota...

Evaluation of Mexiletine Effect on Bispectral Index Changes and Hemodynamic Responses to Endotracheal Intubation and During General Anesthesia

Background &Objective: Plaryngoscopy and tracheal intubation increase not only blood pressure and heart rate but also Bispectral Index (BIS) of the patients. In this study, hemodynamic and BIS changes were surveyed after tracheal intubation and during general anesthesia followed by mexiletine prescription . Materials & Methods: In this study, 50 patients aged between 20 and 60 who were ca...
